If You Have A Pool, You Need to Read This!

It’s no secret that we are in a drought. The California government is cracking down on statewide water usage and giving us strict regulations for when we should be watering our lawns.

While we should be doing our best to take shorter showers and turn the faucet off while we are brushing our teeth, we may not always know what the rules are when it comes to other water usage. After all, it is summertime! Time to jump in the pool and break out the water guns! Or is it?

Here are a few pool restrictions that you need to keep in mind when you’re cooling off for the summer:

In Montecito, Ca, a wealthy town home to celebrities like Oprah Winfrey, new pool construction is currently banned.

In many San Francisco communities, emptying and refilling pools is not permissible.

As of early June 2015, residents in Bakersfield are no longer allowed to drain or refill pools, spas, or hot tubs.

Residents in Sacramento can only drain and refill their pools if there is a serious health concern.

In Santa Barbara, residents are only allowed to drain and refill 1/3 or less of their pool’s volume.

After May 1st, the Oildale Mutual Water Company has restricted pool draining with health reasons as the exception to the rule.

While many parts of California are hopping on board with enforcing residential pool restrictions, The California Water Resources Control Board says that they won’t be enforcing a state-wide law and that they are leaving it up to the districts to take care of it.

So far, it has been fairly effective.

Just because there are new pool restrictions, doesn’t mean you still can’t have an awesome summer with your families. Just be water wise and have fun!
